I LOVE this short story and I'm a huge fan of the writing of Douglas Smith Each and every one of his short stories are incredible This one though Bouuet Of Flowers In A Vase By Van Gogh is my favourite At least for now until I read It has everything from a fantasysci fi setting to a love story It’s about much though as we watch the characters trying to deal with feeling lost and dealing with loss They’re trying to find their own place in the world and some of them are maybe seeking redemption There’s even a dead wife The wonderful story takes us on a fascinating ride through the great work of one of history's favourite painters Each of these characters is brilliantly realised and their sometimes shared history is explained while never slowing the story down This is another of Douglas Smiths stories that has a ‘larger’ feel to it almost like it could have been a novel There’s a larger world that the author hints at but doesn’t have room in this short format to tell us about that he somehow never keeps a mystery from us The best way for me to review it is tell you it’s a brilliantly written fantastical story that everyone should read because most people will love it
